Troubleshoot HPR Files
Issues Opening HPR Files
Adobe RoboHelp Removed
Double-clicking your HPR file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open HPR File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe RoboHelp for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: Another HPR-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Adobe RoboHelp
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Internal RoboHelp File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Adobe RoboHelp from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. Your Internal RoboHelp File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe RoboHelp than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your HPR file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening HPR files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of HPR File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe RoboHelp will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening HPR files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for HPR are wrong
- Deletion of the HPR file description from the Registry by mistake
- Adobe RoboHelp or another HPR application experienced a flawed installation
- The HPR itself is corrupted
- Your HPR has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your HPR file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Internal RoboHelp File file
