Troubleshoot IX Files
Common IX Opening Problems
Corel WordPerfect Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open IX Files" when trying to open your IX. Usually, this is because you do not have Corel WordPerfect for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your IX with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your IX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Corel WordPerfect
Sometimes your installed version of Corel WordPerfect won't support your Corel WordPerfect Office Template File file. You will need to download a newer version of Corel WordPerfect if you don't have the right version. Your Corel WordPerfect Office Template File file was probably created by a newer release of Corel WordPerfect than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your IX file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening IX files are due to having the wrong version of Corel WordPerfect installed.
Other Causes of IX File Opening Problems
Errors opening Corel WordPerfect Office Template File files can still occur even with the latest Corel WordPerfect software installed on your computer. Other IX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid IX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the IX file description inside the Registry
- Corel WordPerfect or another IX application experienced a flawed installation
- Your IX can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The IX is infected with a virus
- IX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Corel WordPerfect Office Template File format
