JDF File Complications
Typical JDF Opening Challenges
Adobe Acrobat DC Not Present
Double-clicking your JDF file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open JDF File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the JDF file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed, and you know of another program to open your JDF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Adobe Acrobat DC Requires Update
Your Adobe Acrobat Job Definition File file is incompatible with Adobe Acrobat DC because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. Your Adobe Acrobat Job Definition File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe Acrobat DC than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your JDF file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening JDF files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening JDFs
Even with the correct version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed, you can still experience difficulties opening JDFs. If you're still experiencing problems opening JDF files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for JDF
- Deletion of the JDF file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a JDF-associated program (eg. Adobe Acrobat DC)
- Your JDF can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The JDF is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with JDF software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Adobe Acrobat Job Definition File format
