JSX Troubleshooting

Troubles Opening JSX Files

Missing Adobe After Effects

If you attempt to load your JSX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open JSX Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Adobe After Effects missing in %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your JSX with Adobe After Effects, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you don't have Adobe After Effects installed, and you know of another program to open your JSX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Outdated Adobe After Effects

Your ExtendScript Script File file is incompatible with Adobe After Effects because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Adobe After Effects (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Right-clicking on your JSX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening JSX files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe After Effects installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading JSX Files

Errors opening ExtendScript Script File files can still occur even with the latest Adobe After Effects software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening JSX files. Additional factors include:

  • Invalid JSX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry JSX description
  • Corrupt install of Adobe After Effects or other JSX-related program
  • The JSX itself is corrupted
  • Malware-tainted JSX file can't be opened
  • Hardware associated with JSX has outdated drivers
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open ExtendScript Script File files
