Sources of MJD Problems
Troubles Opening MJD Files
Adobe Acrobat DC Isn't There
When you double-click your MJD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MJD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed, and you know of another program to open your MJD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Adobe Acrobat DC
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Adobe Acrobat MIME Encoded Job Definition File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Adobe Acrobat DC version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your Adobe Acrobat MIME Encoded Job Definition File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Acrobat DC than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MJD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of MJD file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Acrobat DC version installed.
Other MJD File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening MJD files even with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MJDs. Additional factors include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for MJD
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MJD description
- Invalid installation of a MJD-associated program (eg. Adobe Acrobat DC)
- The MJD itself is corrupted
- The MJD is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MJD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Adobe Acrobat MIME Encoded Job Definition File format
