MXI Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening MXI Files
Adobe InCopy Not Present
You attempt to load your MXI file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MXI File Extension". Customarily, this means that Adobe InCopy is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MXI because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MXI, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Adobe InCopy
It is possible that your version of Adobe InCopy isn't able to open your Adobe Extension Information File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe InCopy. Your Adobe Extension Information File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe InCopy than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MXI, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the MXI file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe InCopy installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading MXI Files
You can still experience errors opening MXI files even with the latest version of Adobe InCopy installed on your PC. Other MXI opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid MXI file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MXI file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Adobe InCopy or other MXI-related program
- Your MXI file is corrupted (issues with your Adobe Extension Information File file itself)
- MXI file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MXI file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Adobe Extension Information File files
