Understanding PEK Issues
Typical PEK Opening Challenges
Adobe Premiere Pro CC Isn't There
Double-clicking your PEK file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PEK File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Premiere Pro CC for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your PEK with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your PEK, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Adobe Premiere Pro CC is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Adobe Peak Waveform File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Adobe Peak Waveform File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your PEK, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening PEK files are due to having the wrong version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PEK Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PEK files. Problems unrelated to software:
- File references in the Windows Registry for PEK are wrong
- Deletion of the PEK file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a PEK-associated program (eg. Adobe Premiere Pro CC)
- PEK file corruption
- PEK file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with PEK has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Adobe Peak Waveform File file
