Understanding PREL Issues
Issues Opening PREL Files
Adobe Premiere Pro CC is Not Installed
Double-clicking your PREL file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PREL File". Customarily, this means that Adobe Premiere Pro CC is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PREL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PREL files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Adobe Premiere Pro CC Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed that's incompatible with your Premiere Elements Project File type. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Premiere Elements Project File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your PREL file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of PREL file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe Premiere Pro CC version installed.
