Understanding PRTL Issues
Typical PRTL Opening Challenges
Adobe Premiere Pro CC Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PRTL Files" when trying to open your PRTL. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Adobe Premiere Pro CC for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PRTL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed, and you know of another program to open your PRTL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Adobe Premiere Pro CC Version
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC won't support your Premiere Pro Title File file. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Premiere Pro Title File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PRTL file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening PRTL files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening PRTLs
You can still experience errors opening PRTL files even with the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PRTL files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PRTL
- Corruption of the PRTL file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PRTL format
- The PRTL itself is corrupted
- Your PRTL has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with PRTL has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Premiere Pro Title File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
