Troubleshoot RMF Files
Frequent RMF Opening Issues
Valve Hammer Editor Isn't There
When trying to open your RMF file, you get the error "Can't Open RMF File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Valve Hammer Editor for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your RMF because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another RMF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Valve Hammer Editor
Sometimes your installed version of Valve Hammer Editor won't support your Hammer Rich Map Format file. If you do not have the proper version Valve Hammer Editor (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Hammer Rich Map Format file was created by a newer version of Valve Hammer Editor than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your RMF file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Valve Hammer Editor version on your computer can cause problems opening RMF files.
