Troubleshooting Problems Opening SBX Files

Common Problems Opening SBX Files

GLBasic Not Present

Double-clicking your SBX file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SBX File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have GLBasic for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: Another SBX-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Outdated GLBasic

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a GLBasic Shoebox File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version GLBasic (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your GLBasic Shoebox File file was created by a newer version of GLBasic than you have on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SBX file and clicking "Properties".

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SBX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other SBX File Opening Causes

Even with the correct version of GLBasic installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SBXs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SBX files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SBX
  • The SBX file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Partial installation of GLBasic that did not fully complete
  • SBX file corruption
  • Your SBX is infected with malware
  • Hardware associated with SBX has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the GLBasic Shoebox File file
