Troubleshoot SITE Files
Common Problems Opening SITE Files
Adobe GoLive is Not Installed
When you double-click your SITE file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe GoLive installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: Another SITE-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Adobe GoLive
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe GoLive won't support your GoLive Website Project File file. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe GoLive installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SITE file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of SITE file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe GoLive version installed.
Additional SITE Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Adobe GoLive version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SITE files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SITE files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid SITE file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the SITE file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Adobe GoLive that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your SITE
- The SITE is infected with a virus
- SITE-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the GoLive Website Project File file
