Troubleshoot SOL Files
Common SOL Opening Problems
Adobe Flash Player Disappeared
When trying to open your SOL file, you get the error "Can't Open SOL File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SOL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your SOL file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of Adobe Flash Player
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Flash Player won't support your Flash Local Shared Object File file. Download the latest Adobe Flash Player version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Flash Local Shared Object File file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe Flash Player than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SOL file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SOL files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional SOL Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe Flash Player will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SOLs. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for SOL are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the SOL file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a SOL-associated program (eg. Adobe Flash Player)
- Your SOL can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted SOL file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with SOL has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Flash Local Shared Object File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
