Troubleshooting Problems Opening SOR Files
Troubles Opening SOR Files
Missing Adobe Media Server
When trying to open your SOR file, you get the error "Can't Open SOR File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Media Server isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SOR file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SOR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Adobe Media Server
In other instances, your Adobe Flash Media Server File System Object file version may not be supported by your version of Adobe Media Server. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Media Server if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Adobe Flash Media Server File System Object file was created by a newer version of Adobe Media Server than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your SOR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening SOR files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Media Server installed on your computer.
Other SOR File Issues
Assuming you have the right Adobe Media Server version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SOR files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading SOR files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- SOR file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The SOR file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a SOR-associated program (eg. Adobe Media Server)
- Your SOR file is corrupted (issues with your Adobe Flash Media Server File System Object file itself)
- Your SOR has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with SOR software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Adobe Flash Media Server File System Object file
