Troubleshooting Problems Opening SWT Files
Common Problems Opening SWT Files
Adobe Flash Professional CC is Not Installed
When you double-click your SWT file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Flash Professional CC for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your SWT with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another SWT application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Adobe Flash Professional CC Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Adobe Flash Professional CC won't support your Flash Generator Template file. Installing the latest version of Adobe Flash Professional CC from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Flash Generator Template file was created by a newer version of Adobe Flash Professional CC than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your SWT file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SWT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of SWT File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Adobe Flash Professional CC or another SWT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Flash Generator Template files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SWT files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Invalid SWT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SWT file description inside the Registry
- Adobe Flash Professional CC or another SWT application experienced a flawed installation
- SWT file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SWT
- Hardware related to SWTs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Flash Generator Template file
