Common MWF Opening Problems

Infrastructure Map Server Disappeared

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MWF Files" when trying to open your MWF. Customarily, this means that Infrastructure Map Server is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: Another MWF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Infrastructure Map Server is Out-of-Date

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a MapGuide Author Map Window File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Autodesk, Inc. website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Infrastructure Map Server. This problem is predominately due to having a MapGuide Author Map Window File file version that was created by a newer version of Infrastructure Map Server than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your MWF file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MWF files are due to having the wrong version of Infrastructure Map Server installed.

Even with the correct version of Infrastructure Map Server installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MWFs. If you're still experiencing problems opening MWF files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
