CDC Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening CDC Files
Autodesk AutoCAD is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your CDC file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open CDC Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Autodesk AutoCAD missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CDC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another CDC-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect Autodesk AutoCAD Version
It is possible that your version of Autodesk AutoCAD isn't able to open your AutoCAD DesignCenter Preview Cache File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Autodesk AutoCAD (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your AutoCAD DesignCenter Preview Cache File file was created by a newer version of Autodesk AutoCAD than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your CDC file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Autodesk AutoCAD version on your computer can cause problems opening CDC files.
Other Causes of CDC File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening CDC files even with the latest version of Autodesk AutoCAD installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading CDC files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for CDC are wrong
- Corruption of the CDC file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the CDC format
- CDC file corruption
- The CDC is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to CDCs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the AutoCAD DesignCenter Preview Cache File file
