NRC Troubleshooting
Common NRC Opening Problems
Nero Burning ROM is Not Installed
Double-clicking your NRC file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open NRC File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Nero Burning ROM installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the NRC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your NRC, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Nero Burning ROM is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Nero Disc Compilation File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Nero Burning ROM version from the Nero AG website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the NRC file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Nero Burning ROM version on your computer can cause problems opening NRC files.
Other NRC File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening NRC files even with the latest version of Nero Burning ROM installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening NRC files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid NRC file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the NRC file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Nero Burning ROM or other NRC-related program
- Your NRC file is corrupted (issues with your Nero Disc Compilation File file itself)
- NRC file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your NRC file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Nero Disc Compilation File file
