Troubleshooting Problems Opening NRW Files
Common NRW Opening Problems
Missing MacPhun ColorStrokes
If you attempt to load your NRW file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open NRW Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to MacPhun ColorStrokes missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your NRW because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have MacPhun ColorStrokes installed, and you know of another program to open your NRW file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
MacPhun ColorStrokes Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of MacPhun ColorStrokes installed that's incompatible with your Nikon Raw Image File type. If you've got the wrong version of MacPhun ColorStrokes installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Nikon Raw Image File file was created by a different (newer) version of MacPhun ColorStrokes than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of NRW file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening NRW files are due to having the wrong version of MacPhun ColorStrokes installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading NRW Files
Errors opening Nikon Raw Image File files can still occur even with the latest MacPhun ColorStrokes software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening NRW files. Other contributing causes:
- NRW file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The NRW file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the NRW format
- Something has caused file corruption of your NRW
- Your NRW has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with NRW software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Nikon Raw Image File files
