Sources of WPS Problems
Troubles Opening WPS Files
Missing WPS Office
When trying to open your WPS file, you get the error "Can't Open WPS File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to WPS Office missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your WPS because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another WPS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
WPS Office Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Kingsoft Writer Document file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version WPS Office (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Kingsoft Writer Document file was created by a newer version of WPS Office than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WPS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening WPS files are due to having the wrong version of WPS Office installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening WPSs
Even with the correct version of WPS Office installed, you can still experience difficulties opening WPSs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading WPS files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- WPS file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the WPS file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a WPS-associated program (eg. WPS Office)
- Your WPS file is corrupted (issues with your Kingsoft Writer Document file itself)
- Your WPS has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with WPS has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Kingsoft Writer Document file
