ODB Troubleshooting
Common ODB Opening Problems
Apache OpenOffice is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your ODB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ODB Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Apache OpenOffice missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your ODB because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ODB, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Apache OpenOffice Requires Update
Your OpenDocument Database file is incompatible with Apache OpenOffice because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Apache OpenOffice version from the Apache Software Foundation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your OpenDocument Database file was created by a newer version of Apache OpenOffice than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ODB file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ODB files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional ODB Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening ODB files even with the latest version of Apache OpenOffice installed on your PC. Other ODB opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for ODB are wrong
- The ODB file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a ODB-associated program (eg. Apache OpenOffice)
- Your ODB can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted ODB file can't be opened
- Hardware related to ODBs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the OpenDocument Database format
