OTP File Complications

Troubles Opening OTP Files

Apache OpenOffice Disappeared

If you attempt to load your OTP file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open OTP Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Apache OpenOffice isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your OTP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When another OTP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Wrong Version of Apache OpenOffice is Installed

Your OpenDocument Presentation file is incompatible with Apache OpenOffice because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Apache OpenOffice if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: If you right-click on your OTP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening OTP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Other OTP File Opening Causes

Although you might already have Apache OpenOffice or another OTP-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening OpenDocument Presentation files. Other OTP opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Invalid OTP file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry OTP description
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the OTP format
  • Your OTP can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Your OTP has adversely impacted by malware
  • Hardware associated with OTP has outdated drivers
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your OpenDocument Presentation file successfully
