OTT Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening OTT Files
Missing Apache OpenOffice
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OTT Files" when trying to open your OTT. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Apache OpenOffice for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the OTT file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your OTT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Apache OpenOffice is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Apache OpenOffice installed that's incompatible with your OpenDocument Document Template type. If you've got the wrong version of Apache OpenOffice installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a OpenDocument Document Template file version that was created by a newer version of Apache OpenOffice than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your OTT file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right Apache OpenOffice version on your computer can cause problems opening OTT files.
Other OTT File Issues
Errors opening OpenDocument Document Template files can still occur even with the latest Apache OpenOffice software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening OTT files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
- Windows Registry OTT file paths that are incorrect
- The OTT file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Apache OpenOffice or another OTT application experienced a flawed installation
- The OTT itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your OTT
- Device drivers for OTT-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open OpenDocument Document Template files
