Troubleshooting Problems Opening ESA Files
Typical ESA Opening Challenges
Enveloc Backup is Not Installed
When trying to open your ESA file, you get the error "Can't Open ESA File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Enveloc Backup isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your ESA because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ESA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Enveloc Backup Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Enveloc Backup isn't able to open your Enveloc Secure Archive file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Enveloc Backup version from the Enveloc, Inc. website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Enveloc Secure Archive file version that was created by a newer version of Enveloc Backup than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your ESA file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening ESA files are due to having the incorrect version of Enveloc Backup installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading ESA Files
Even with the correct version of Enveloc Backup installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ESAs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening ESAs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for ESA are wrong
- Corruption of the ESA file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Enveloc Backup or other ESA-related program
- ESA file corruption
- Your ESA has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with ESA software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Enveloc Secure Archive file
