Troubleshoot PRC Files
Common PRC Opening Problems
Adobe Acrobat DC Isn't There
You attempt to load your PRC file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PRC File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Acrobat DC for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Adobe Acrobat DC installed, and you know of another program to open your PRC file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Adobe Acrobat DC
It is possible that your version of Adobe Acrobat DC isn't able to open your Product Representation Compact File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Adobe Acrobat DC if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Product Representation Compact File file was created by a newer version of Adobe Acrobat DC than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your PRC file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PRC files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading PRC Files
Even with the correct version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed, you can still experience difficulties opening PRCs. Other PRC opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry PRC file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry PRC description
- Corrupt install of Adobe Acrobat DC or other PRC-related program
- PRC file corruption
- Malware-tainted PRC file can't be opened
- PRC-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Product Representation Compact File file
