BOX Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening BOX Files
Mozilla Thunderbird Removed
Double-clicking your BOX file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open BOX File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Mozilla Thunderbird isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Mozilla Thunderbird installed, and you know of another program to open your BOX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Mozilla Thunderbird is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your E-mail Mailbox file version may not be supported by your version of Mozilla Thunderbird. Installing the latest version of Mozilla Thunderbird from Mozilla is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a E-mail Mailbox file version that was created by a newer version of Mozilla Thunderbird than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your BOX file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the BOX file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Mozilla Thunderbird installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening BOXs
Even with the correct version of Mozilla Thunderbird installed, you can still experience difficulties opening BOXs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening BOXs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- BOX file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the BOX file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a BOX-associated program (eg. Mozilla Thunderbird)
- Your BOX file is corrupted (issues with your E-mail Mailbox file itself)
- Your BOX is infected with malware
- Hardware related to BOXs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open E-mail Mailbox files
