Troubleshooting Problems Opening QXB Files
Issues Opening QXB Files
QuarkXPress Isn't There
When trying to open your QXB file, you get the error "Can't Open QXB File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have QuarkXPress for - installed. Your operating system cannot associate your QXB with QuarkXPress, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens QXB files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of QuarkXPress
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a QuarkXPress Book File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest QuarkXPress version from the Quark Software Inc. website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your QuarkXPress Book File file was created by a different (newer) version of QuarkXPress than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your QXB, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the QXB file opening problems relate to not having the right version of QuarkXPress installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading QXB Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of QuarkXPress will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening QXB files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid QXB file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
