Troubleshoot QXT Files
Typical QXT Opening Challenges
QuarkXPress Not Present
If you attempt to load your QXT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open QXT Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because QuarkXPress isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your QXT because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your QXT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of QuarkXPress
Sometimes your installed version of QuarkXPress won't support your QuarkXPress Template file. If you do not have the proper version QuarkXPress (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your QuarkXPress Template file was probably created by a newer release of QuarkXPress than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of QXT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening QXT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional QXT Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of QuarkXPress installed, you can still experience difficulties opening QXTs. If you're still experiencing problems opening QXT files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- QXT file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The QXT file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a QXT-associated program (eg. QuarkXPress)
- Your QXT file is corrupted (issues with your QuarkXPress Template file itself)
- Malware-tainted QXT file can't be opened
- QXT-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your QuarkXPress Template file
