Common Problems Opening SEML Files
Missing Oracle IRM Desktop
You encounter an error message such as "- Can't Open SEML Files" when trying to open your SEML. Usually, this is because you do not have Oracle IRM Desktop for - installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SEML file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another SEML application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated Oracle IRM Desktop
In other instances, your Sealed EML Document file version may not be supported by your version of Oracle IRM Desktop. If you've got the wrong version of Oracle IRM Desktop installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Sealed EML Document file was probably created by a newer release of Oracle IRM Desktop than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your SEML file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Oracle IRM Desktop version on your computer can cause problems opening SEML files.
Associated Difficulties Loading SEML Files
Although you might already have Oracle IRM Desktop or another SEML-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Sealed EML Document files. If you are still having problems opening SEML files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- SEML file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the SEML file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Oracle IRM Desktop or other SEML-related program
- SEML file corruption
- Your SEML is infected with malware
- Device drivers for SEML-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Sealed EML Document files
