SXL Troubleshooting

Frequent SXL Opening Issues

Unsealer Not Present

You attempt to load your SXL file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SXL File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Unsealer for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your SXL file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SXL, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of Unsealer is Installed

Sometimes your installed version of Unsealer won't support your Sealed Excel Worksheet File file. You will need to download a newer version of Unsealer if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Sealed Excel Worksheet File file version that was created by a newer version of Unsealer than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SXL file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SXL files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading SXL Files

Assuming you have the right Unsealer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SXL files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SXL files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

• Invalid SXL file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
• Deletion of the SXL file description from the Registry by mistake
• Invalid installation of a SXL-associated program (eg. Unsealer)
• SXL file corruption
• The SXL is infected with a virus
• Hardware associated with SXL has outdated drivers
• Insufficient system resources to successfully open Sealed Excel Worksheet File files
