Common Problems Opening SDC Files
Stardock Central Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open SDC Files" when trying to open your SDC. Usually, this is because you do not have Stardock Central for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the SDC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your SDC file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Stardock Central Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Stardock Central won't support your Stardock Central Download Archive file. You will need to download a newer version of Stardock Central if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Stardock Central Download Archive file version that was created by a newer version of Stardock Central than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your SDC file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SDC files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other SDC File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Stardock Central will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening SDC files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SDC
- Corruption of the SDC file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Stardock Central or other SDC-related program
- The SDC itself is corrupted
- Your SDC is infected with malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SDC file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Stardock Central Download Archive file
