SXI File Complications
Common Problems Opening SXI Files
Apache OpenOffice Disappeared
When you double-click your SXI file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Apache OpenOffice missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your SXI with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Apache OpenOffice installed, and you know of another program to open your SXI file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Apache OpenOffice Version
Sometimes your installed version of Apache OpenOffice won't support your StarOffice Impress Presentation file. Installing the latest version of Apache OpenOffice from Apache Software Foundation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your StarOffice Impress Presentation file was created by a newer version of Apache OpenOffice than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SXI file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the SXI file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Apache OpenOffice installed.
Other SXI File Issues
Although you might already have Apache OpenOffice or another SXI-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening StarOffice Impress Presentation files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SXI files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SXI
- Corruption of the SXI file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a SXI program, such as Apache OpenOffice
- Your SXI can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted SXI file can't be opened
- SXI-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your StarOffice Impress Presentation file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
