Sources of TMO Problems
Typical TMO Opening Challenges
MikuMikuDance Disappeared
When trying to open your TMO file, you get the error "Can't Open TMO File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have MikuMikuDance for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your TMO with MikuMikuDance, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens TMO files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated MikuMikuDance
It is possible that your version of MikuMikuDance isn't able to open your 3DCG Animation And Pose File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest MikuMikuDance version from the Yu Higuchi website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your 3DCG Animation And Pose File file was created by a newer MikuMikuDance than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your TMO, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening TMO files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening TMOs
Errors opening 3DCG Animation And Pose File files can still occur even with the latest MikuMikuDance software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening TMOs. These issues include:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for TMO
- Deletion of the TMO file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a TMO-associated program (eg. MikuMikuDance)
- TMO file corruption
- The TMO is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for TMO-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the 3DCG Animation And Pose File file
