Sources of VSD Problems
Troubles Opening VSD Files
Missing LibreOffice
When you double-click your VSD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have LibreOffice for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your VSD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VSD files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of LibreOffice
Sometimes your installed version of LibreOffice won't support your Microsoft Visio Drawing File file. Visit the The Document Foundation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of LibreOffice. Your Microsoft Visio Drawing File file was probably created by a newer release of LibreOffice than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the VSD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right LibreOffice version on your computer can cause problems opening VSD files.
Other VSD File Opening Causes
Although you might already have LibreOffice or another VSD-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Visio Drawing File files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading VSD files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- VSD file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the VSD file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of LibreOffice or other VSD-related program
- Your VSD file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft Visio Drawing File file itself)
- Malware-tainted VSD file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with VSD software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Microsoft Visio Drawing File file
