VST File Complications
Common Problems Opening VST Files
Missing Adobe Illustrator CC
When you double-click your VST file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Illustrator CC for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your VST, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Adobe Illustrator CC
Your Targa Bitmap Image File file is incompatible with Adobe Illustrator CC because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Targa Bitmap Image File file was created by a different (newer) version of Adobe Illustrator CC than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your VST file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening VST files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other VST File Issues
You can still experience errors opening VST files even with the latest version of Adobe Illustrator CC installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening VST files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry VST file paths that are incorrect
- The VST file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the VST format
- The VST itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted VST file can't be opened
- VST-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Targa Bitmap Image File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
