Sources of VTD Problems

Frequent VTD Opening Issues

Microsoft Windows is Not Installed

When trying to open your VTD file, you get the error "Can't Open VTD File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your VTD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When another VTD application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Outdated Microsoft Windows

It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows isn't able to open your Microsoft VOLT Glyph Data file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Windows version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft VOLT Glyph Data file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than you have on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your VTD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the VTD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Windows installed.

Other VTD File Issues

Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VTDs. If you are still having problems opening VTD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • VTD file type Registry entries are wrong
  • The VTD file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Defective install of a VTD program, such as Microsoft Windows
  • Something has caused file corruption of your VTD
  • Malware-tainted VTD file can't be opened
  • Hardware associated with VTD has outdated drivers
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Microsoft VOLT Glyph Data file
