Frequent ABW Opening Issues

AbiWord Not Present

If you attempt to load your ABW file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ABW Files". Usually, this is because you do not have AbiWord for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your ABW file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ABW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

AbiWord Requires Update

In other instances, your AbiWord Document file version may not be supported by your version of AbiWord. Download the latest AbiWord version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your AbiWord Document file was created by a newer AbiWord than what you have installed.

Tip: Right-clicking on your ABW, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
