Troubleshooting Problems Opening VOX Files
Common VOX Opening Problems
MagicaVoxel Isn't There
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open VOX Files" when trying to open your VOX. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have MagicaVoxel for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your VOX because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your VOX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of MagicaVoxel is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Voxlap Voxel Model File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of MagicaVoxel if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Voxlap Voxel Model File file was created by a newer MagicaVoxel than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of VOX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of VOX file opening issues are due to not having the correct MagicaVoxel version installed.
Additional VOX Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right MagicaVoxel version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening VOX files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading VOX files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid VOX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the VOX file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of MagicaVoxel or other VOX-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your VOX
- VOX file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with VOX software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Voxlap Voxel Model File file successfully
