AAM File Complications
Typical AAM Opening Challenges
Adobe Authorware Removed
If you attempt to load your AAM file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AAM Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Adobe Authorware for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens AAM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Adobe Authorware is Installed
Your Authorware Map File file is incompatible with Adobe Authorware because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Authorware installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your Authorware Map File file was created by a newer Adobe Authorware than what you have installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your AAM file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening AAM files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Authorware installed on your computer.
Other AAM File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right Adobe Authorware version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening AAM files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AAMs. Problems unrelated to software:
- AAM file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the AAM file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a AAM program, such as Adobe Authorware
- File corruption affecting your AAM file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AAM
- Hardware related to AAMs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your Authorware Map File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
