Typical CSH Opening Challenges

Adobe Photoshop Elements is Not Installed

When you double-click your CSH file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Adobe Photoshop Elements missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your CSH with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CSH, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of Adobe Photoshop Elements is Installed

In other instances, your Photoshop Custom Shapes File file version may not be supported by your version of Adobe Photoshop Elements. Installing the latest version of Adobe Photoshop Elements from Adobe Systems Incorporated is recommended. Most of the time your Photoshop Custom Shapes File file was created by a newer Adobe Photoshop Elements than what you have installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the CSH file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Regardless, most of the CSH file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Photoshop Elements installed.

Other CSH File Opening Causes

Even with the correct version of Adobe Photoshop Elements installed, you can still experience difficulties opening CSHs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening CSHs. Problems unrelated to software:

• File references in the Windows Registry for CSH are wrong
• Mistaken removal of the Windows registry CSH description
• Defective install of a CSH program, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements
• Something has caused file corruption of your CSH
• Your CSH is infected with malware
• CSH-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
• Windows cannot load your Photoshop Custom Shapes File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
