Troubleshoot WAD Files
Typical WAD Opening Challenges
Doom is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your WAD file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open WAD Files". Customarily, this means that Doom is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your WAD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your WAD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Doom Version
It is possible that your version of Doom isn't able to open your Doom WAD File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Doom installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Doom WAD File file was created by a newer version of Doom than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your WAD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Doom version on your computer can cause problems opening WAD files.
