TTC Troubleshooting
Typical TTC Opening Challenges
Missing Microsoft Windows Font Viewer
When trying to open your TTC file, you get the error "Can't Open TTC File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Windows Font Viewer installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the TTC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another TTC application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Microsoft Windows Font Viewer Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer installed that's incompatible with your TrueType Font Collection type. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your TrueType Font Collection file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your TTC file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening TTC files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Windows Font Viewer installed on your computer.
Other Causes of TTC File Opening Problems
Errors opening TrueType Font Collection files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Windows Font Viewer software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening TTC files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry TTC file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the TTC file in the Windows registry
- Microsoft Windows Font Viewer or another TTC application experienced a flawed installation
- Your TTC can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The TTC is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with TTC software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the TrueType Font Collection format
