AFM File Complications
Typical AFM Opening Challenges
Adobe Creative Cloud Isn't There
If you attempt to load your AFM file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open AFM Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Creative Cloud isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your AFM with Adobe Creative Cloud, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your AFM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of Adobe Creative Cloud
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Adobe Font Metrics File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your AFM file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the AFM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed.
Other AFM File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right Adobe Creative Cloud version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening AFM files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading AFM files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry AFM file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the AFM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Adobe Creative Cloud that did not fully complete
- The AFM itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your AFM
- Hardware related to AFMs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Adobe Font Metrics File files
