GCA Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening GCA Files
IZArc is Not Installed
You attempt to load your GCA file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The GCA File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to IZArc missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the GCA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your GCA, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect IZArc Version
In other instances, your GCA File Archive file version may not be supported by your version of IZArc. If you've got the wrong version of IZArc installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a GCA File Archive file version that was created by a newer version of IZArc than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your GCA file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening GCA files are due to having the incorrect version of IZArc installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening GCAs
Assuming you have the right IZArc version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening GCA files. If you are still having problems opening GCA files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- GCA file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the GCA file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the GCA format
- File corruption affecting your GCA file
- GCA file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to GCAs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your GCA File Archive file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
