Issues Opening IBOOKS Files
Apple iBooks is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "- Can't Open IBOOKS Files" when trying to open your IBOOKS. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Apple iBooks for - installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your IBOOKS with Apple iBooks, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another IBOOKS application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Apple iBooks is Installed
Your Multi-Touch iBook file is incompatible with Apple iBooks because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Apple iBooks (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your IBOOKS, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the IBOOKS file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Apple iBooks installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening IBOOKSs
Even with the correct version of Apple iBooks installed, you can still experience difficulties opening IBOOKSs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading IBOOKS files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid IBOOKS file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The IBOOKS file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a IBOOKS-associated program (eg. Apple iBooks)
- Something has caused file corruption of your IBOOKS
- The IBOOKS is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to IBOOKSs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Multi-Touch iBook file
