PM5 Troubleshooting

Troubles Opening PM5 Files

Adobe PageMaker is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your PM5 file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open PM5 Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe PageMaker installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your PM5 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PM5 files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated Adobe PageMaker

Your PageMaker 5.0 Document file is incompatible with Adobe PageMaker because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe PageMaker. Your PageMaker 5.0 Document file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe PageMaker than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: If you right-click on your PM5 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Conclusion: The majority of PM5 file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe PageMaker version installed.

Other PM5 File Opening Causes

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Adobe PageMaker will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening PM5 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for PM5 are wrong
  • Corruption of the PM5 file description inside the Registry
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PM5 format
  • Your PM5 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • PM5 file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Drivers associated with PM5 software need to be updated
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your PageMaker 5.0 Document file
