Sources of SPX Problems
Issues Opening SPX Files
Missing Microsoft Windows Media Player
Double-clicking your SPX file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SPX File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows Media Player missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your SPX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your SPX file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Microsoft Windows Media Player Version
Your Ogg Vorbis Speex File file is incompatible with Microsoft Windows Media Player because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player. Your Ogg Vorbis Speex File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows Media Player than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SPX file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SPX files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed.
Additional SPX Opening Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Windows Media Player or another SPX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Ogg Vorbis Speex File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening SPX files. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid SPX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SPX file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the SPX format
- File corruption affecting your SPX file
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SPX
- SPX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Ogg Vorbis Speex File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
