S1M File Complications
Common S1M Opening Problems
Awave Studio Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open S1M Files" when trying to open your S1M. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Awave Studio isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your S1M file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Awave Studio is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Awave Studio won't support your Yamaha EX5 Waveform Data file. You will need to download a newer version of Awave Studio if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Yamaha EX5 Waveform Data file was created by a newer version of Awave Studio than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the S1M file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening S1M files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other S1M File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right Awave Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening S1M files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening S1Ms. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for S1M are wrong
- Deletion of the S1M file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a S1M program, such as Awave Studio
- File corruption affecting your S1M file
- The S1M is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your S1M file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Yamaha EX5 Waveform Data file
