WEBM Troubleshooting
Typical WEBM Opening Challenges
Internet Explorer Not Present
You attempt to load your WEBM file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The WEBM File Extension". Customarily, this means that Internet Explorer is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your WEBM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Internet Explorer Version
Your WebM Video File file is incompatible with Internet Explorer because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Internet Explorer. The primary cause of this problem is that your WebM Video File file was created by a different (newer) version of Internet Explorer than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WEBM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening WEBM files are due to having the wrong version of Internet Explorer installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening WEBMs
Assuming you have the right Internet Explorer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening WEBM files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WEBMs. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Windows Registry WEBM file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the WEBM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Internet Explorer that did not fully complete
- Your WEBM can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- WEBM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your WEBM file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the WebM Video File format
