Understanding AIFC Issues
Typical AIFC Opening Challenges
Microsoft Windows Media Player Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open AIFC Files" when trying to open your AIFC. Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Windows Media Player for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your AIFC with Microsoft Windows Media Player, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows Media Player installed, and you know of another program to open your AIFC file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Microsoft Windows Media Player is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed that's incompatible with your Compressed Audio Interchange File type. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Compressed Audio Interchange File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows Media Player than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your AIFC, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening AIFC files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading AIFC Files
Although you might already have Microsoft Windows Media Player or another AIFC-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Compressed Audio Interchange File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening AIFC files. Problems unrelated to software:
- File references in the Windows Registry for AIFC are wrong
- Corruption of the AIFC file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a AIFC-associated program (eg. Microsoft Windows Media Player)
- AIFC file corruption
- AIFC file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for AIFC-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Compressed Audio Interchange File file
